Who knew clinic could be so fun?!

You know that old saying, better late than never...yeah, well keep that in mind while I post about Riley's doctor's appointment that was last week Friday. I apologize for lateness, and am hoping that the super cute pictures I include will make up for it!!

So, Friday morning Riley and I headed to Houston for her monthly check-up and chemo. I had a feeling it was going to be a long day, but thankfully Riley was in a fun mood so I wasn't worried. It turned out I was right about the long day of waiting...but much to our delight NASA had a group of volunteers in the waiting room entertaining the kids (and parents). They helped Riley make an astronaut from construction paper, and even had a sample astronaut suit to check out. Each of these things helped to make this long day of waiting one of the best days Riley and I have had in clinic throughout this entire journey...we had fun being silly and didn't mind that it was 2:30 before we left from our 10:15 appointment.

This is Sarah, the astronaut Riley made. She's wearing orange, which means she will be going on the challenger (at least I think that's what they told her).

Once we finally got called back to a room to see Dr. Dreyer, things started to move a little quicker. Riley also decided to take over my laptop and watch a movie...it was quite comical because she would just randomly start singing along with the movie, but she would be hollering from having the head phones on. She had everyone laughing.

Riley's counts were all great...her ANC is still higher than they would like to see it. But due to our bad luck on trying to lower her ANC by upping her home chemo meds, they decided to leave it alone for now. Some great news, is that we are still on track for Riley to be finished with treatments in December. That means only 3 more treatments, and 3 more steroid weeks...yahoo!! Although, I must admit this week of steroids has been strangely tolerable...so no complaints here!!

Weekend fun

We had a fun and busy weekend in Brenham, with a ton of pictures to prove it. The kids rode their bikes at the airport, and even got to fly in Bob's airplane...they have yet to stop talking about that. Saturday night we took them to ride rides at the fair, and they even got to ride horses....Hayden was in heaven! It's those little things!!

School days

Oops...

...I have a blog to keep up with, don't I? Please forgive me, and remember that no news is (usually) always good news. Although we tend to forget there are people out there actually reading this, because we haven't been getting any comment love lately...hint, hint. Riley will ask every now and then what people have written and imagine her disappointment when I have to tell here NOTHING!! Show her some love, people!!
Things here have been busy as usual...although, nothing has been newsworthy. Riley is settling in to the routine of school...she even somehow managed to talk her teacher into letting her lay on a towel on the ground during story/rest time. She almost always falls asleep, and her teacher lets her sleep through PE...going to have to put an end to that one!! She's a sneaky one, that Riley-Bee is!!
The kids have also stayed busy sharing their illnesses with their favorite Mommy. I know we always raise our kids teaching them to share what is theirs, but we always forget to add the disclaimer - Except for your sick germs!! Last Friday night Riley was blessed with the stomach bug that has been passed around town, and Sunday night I was able to be blessed with the same stomach bug. Hayden also decided to share with me his fever and sore throat...isn't he so sweet?! Why can't they share with their Daddy instead?

September is National Childhood Cancer Awareness month, so please remember to think and pray about all the Cancer Cuties you know. Riley is thankfully doing very well, but it seems like every other Leukemia fighter I read about has recently relapsed. So, please pray for them as they begin their battles again from the beginning. It's very scary!! Orange has been dedicated as the color of Leukemia, so wear it proud and wear it loud. Let's show these kids we're thinking of them!!
