Trucking along

Yesterday Riley had a clinic appointment to check on her blood counts, and everything looked good. The only concern was her platelets have dropped pretty low to 67, so we are going to have them rechecked again tomorrow in case she will need a transfusion before the weekend. Riley's ANC was a whopping 2230...WOW!! If you remember we barely got discharged a little over a week ago with an ANC of 200 and something...that's quite a jump.

Riley is still not walking on her own, so today she is starting physical therapy here in Hallettsville. I knew it would take forever to get her in at Texas Children's, and lucky for us Hallettsville happened to be on the list of referral sites. She is just too heavy to be packing around everywhere...but if it were up to her that's how it would be. We thought maybe once the steroids wore off she would be up and around more, but that's not happening either. The after affects from this last round of steroids have proved to be worse than ever. It has been a week since she stopped taking them, and she is just now starting to return back to her old self. She remained grouchy and would not talk...if you even looked at her wrong she would growl at you. We are still getting up in the middle of the night to eat, sometimes more than once. We are all just so glad this was our last major battle with steroids. She will have some 5-day courses throughout the maintenance portion of treatment, but those are nothing compared to this. Next Monday starts our last month of heavy treatment, and then we are on to Maintenance for the next couple of years. Wa-hoo!!!

Friday night was Hallettsville's Relay For Life, and Riley participated in the survivor's lap...but was not too excited about life. She was tired, and a little overwhelmed. Some of the ladies on my team decorated a wagon for her to ride in...it was so cute, all decked out in purple. Hayden had a blast with the balloons! We have some pictures, but I failed to charge my camera so I am unable to retrieve them. I will try to get it done tomorrow. This coming Friday night is Yoakum's Relay For Life, and Riley will once again participate in the Survivor's Lap. I think she will enjoy this one more, as she is perking up more each day. I'll keep you posted!!
